Product suggestions

You’ll need:

Eggs, blown-out

Heitmann egg blowing set

Egg dye

Heitmann traditional transfers

Lantern with hanging handle, preserving jar, or similar

Thick jute yarn

Small branch or wooden skewer

Matches or wooden skewer

Scissors

Strong thread or string

Some straw (or moss)

How it’s done

1. Carefully bore a hole into the eggshell and empty out the egg.

Tip: As the eggshell may not be clean, you shouldn’t blow out the egg with your mouth. A handy way to empty eggs without contact with your mouth is to use a Heitmann egg blowing set.

2. Next, clean the egg carefully with diluted vinegar and dye it. Many Heitmann egg dyes are also suitable for blown-out eggs. Look out for this icon.

3. When the egg is dry, you can attach the transfers.

4. Then place some straw or moss in the bottom of the jar.

5. To hang up the egg, cut off a small piece of matchstick (approx. 1.5 cm) and tie a piece of thread around the centre of it. Choose the length so that the egg will hang freely in the jar and not rest on the bottom.

Tip: It doesn’t matter if the thread is too long to start with. You can adjust the length later when you attach the egg.

6. Now put the little bit of wood with the thread attached vertically through the hole in the eggshell. The wood will lie horizontally across the inside of the opening when the egg hangs from the thread.

7. Now take the little branch or skewer and tie the other end of the thread to the middle of it.

8. Finally, simply lay the branch with the egg attached over the neck of the jar and adjust the length of the thread so that the egg hangs freely.

You’re almost done—all you need to do now is find a nice place for your jar!
